Brilliant town hall tour and it's free! Dr McGrath was our tour guide, he was extremely knowledgeable and brought the history to life with stories, facts and artefacts. We were taken to the beautiful main room on the first floor then down to the strong room which was fascinating. We even got to see 'The Historie and Lives of the Kings of England" book from 1615. The tour is on the last Wednesday of each month at 11am (lasts an hour) and you can book free spaces in advance through the Wigan Council / Eventbrite website. There's a car park outside, £1 for an hour (but go for £1.60 for 2 hours as our tour overran) card, contactless or pay by phone payment.

4 years agoProfessionally, lovingly restored building; superbly constructed archive area; fantastic exhibition space. I particularly loved the large scale map wall of our area, carefully pieced together from separate OS maps, and showing the plethora of mineral lines that crisscrossed these parts. Amazing!!
